Port Angeles, WA: Slideshow & Adventure Writing Workshop

I’m so excited to share this news! In January 2017, I’ll be visiting Port Angeles, Washington for two extra-special events.

Friday, January 6th (7-8:30pm): I’ll be giving a slideshow about my recent adventures at Barhop Brewing & Pizza. Suggested donation: $5.

Saturday, January 7th (10am-4pm): I’ll be collaborating with the Outdoor Women’s Alliance to lead an adventure writing workshop at Feiro Marine Life Center. Here’s the course description:

It doesn’t matter whether you’re an experienced author, part-time blogger, or a curious novice — this workshop is designed to help you realize your potential as a writer. Whatever your experience level might be, I want to hear about your goals, help you hone your skills, and ask the hard questions that will help you move your writing forward.

We’ll enjoy an online meet-and-greet in the week leading up to the course, in which the class will introduce themselves and do a little online teambuilding. I’ll assign background reading, and every student will do a suggested writing assignment to warm up and get the creative juices flowing.

On January 7th, we’ll meet for an intense and rewarding six hours at the Feiro Marine Life Center in Port Angeles, Washington.

It’s a unique setting that will let us enjoy hands-on experiential learning, innovative and intuitive classroom lectures, one-of-a-kind writing prompts, and a Q&A session about how, where, and when to publish your work. Please bring your questions, insecurities, and secret ambitions. The atmosphere will be supportive, fun, and designed to encourage creativity.

As the end of the day, each student will have the option to submit their essays, either via email or hard copy (up to 20 pages). I’ll provide written feedback — both on your work and on some suggested next steps for your writing in general — within one week (by January 14th).

Please join us! All writers are welcome. The cost for the workshop is $50, which you can reserve by paying below — once your payment is processed, I’ll send you an email confirming your spot in the class. A portion of the proceeds from the event will go to the Outdoor Women’s Alliance (OWA), a nonprofit media and adventure collective that encourages, educates, and engages women through adventure sports worldwide. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to the OWA’s Washington State Grassroots Team (led by Laura-Ann Grieser) or get in touch with me directly. (And for background reading, check out this post.)

There will be fun door prizes at both the slideshow and the writing workshop from Vasque, Rite in the Rain, and Granite Gear.
